01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A glossy, balanced sweet-savory glaze clings generously to soft, freshly charred rice dumplings at Masunoya, an everyday wagashi shop nestled in a residential corner of Kawaguchi's Asahi district. Renowned for its tender, chewy texture and clean sweetness that never feels cloying, the signature mitarashi dango is so modestly priced that it is easy to order by the handful. Beside it sit anko dango coated in gently sweetened red bean paste, making for easy pick-me-up snacks or casual takeaway gifts.

Fluffy Dorayaki and Timeless Confectionery Staples

The glass counter holds far more than skewered dango. Masunoya’s dorayaki feature light, pillowy pancakes infused with hints of egg and honey, encasing a satisfying portion of sweet bean paste despite their modest size. The shelves are also stocked with bean-studded mame daifuku, steamed sekihan (glutinous rice with azuki beans) with a pleasant chew, and seasonal touches such as kashiwa mochi and chilled mizu yokan.

Because certain favorites can sell out as the day progresses, stopping by earlier offers the best selection. The shop accepts code payment services including PayPay and Rakuten Pay, making it a convenient stop during a neighborhood walk.
